The Blade Trackball enables unique 2‐axis input to devices using a classic Blackberry style electromechanical trackball. This can facilitate ultra‐low power interrupt‐driven dual‐axis input with high precision that is glove‐operable and has tactile feedback.
The board outputs digital pulses using miniature rotating magnetic wheels and small hall‐effect sensors to detect motion. The ingenious mechanical design allows distinct up/down and left/right inputs back to the host system. Pressing down on the trackball actuates a momentary switch for an additional “clickable” input.
The board accepts standard 5V in from the Blade bus and features a 3.3V LDO. This allows the pulse voltage to be configurable via the selector switch. The 3.3V output can be tapped for the application, and will also pass through 2.5V ‐ 3.3V input to accommodate any breadboard design that has supply voltage in the range 2.5V – 5.5V.
