Camp enGENIUS: Calgary Junior High STEM Summer Camps

“This was the best camp I’ve ever been to, and I have been to A LOT of camps!” – Isaac

“Everything was the best!” – Kail

“Such cool content. Thank you soooo very much!” – Ella

Learn engineering from the best of the best in Calgary!

What do handcuffs have to do with teaching binary numbers? More than you think, and that perfectly explains how Camp enGENIUS does STEM. We have been running extracurricular education programs at the University of Calgary for 18 years, and are thrilled to bring our unique, innovative approach to teaching back for another year of fantastic week-long summer camps!

This year Camp enGENIUS features three different camps:

1. STEM, STEM, everywhere: a great introduction to electrical, software, and computer engineering-based topics in STEM. This camp is ideal for building confidence in these skills and demystifying the technical world around us. Students have fun using familiar resources, games, and activities to see how technology is part of every day before seeing how to do it for themselves. This includes some soldering, coding, radios, robots, lights, lasers, and more! And of course, there are the giant slingshots.

2. I HEART Circuits: if you LOVE building circuits and learning how to build electronics, this camp is for you. New this year, the week will focus on designing 5 different circuits, making circuit boards, and soldering them together. We’ll do a little bit of programming to make things work and integrate to the other camp streams for daily wrap-up activities.

3. I HEART Code: if coding is your passion, come to this camp! Participants will be writing the programs that will run on the circuits being designed in the Circuits camp! You’ll learn a little about the hardware, create a solution, then put together a program to make things work all under the watchful eye of experienced programmers. Each day will tie in with the other groups for fun testing and team challenges. That’s Isaac (see quote above) in the photo — he’s serious about code.

All camps run at the Dalhousie Community Centre centrally located in NW Calgary with easy access including C-Train and a short bus ride. The camp day is from 8:30am – 4:30pm. Early morning care (7:30am – 8:30am) and late day care (4:30pm – 5:30pm) are available.

No experience required. All activities can scale for 11-15 year-olds, beginners to experts. For more information please contact Jason at 587-353-3451 or email info@engenuics.com. If you’re ready to go, register for any of the camps in any of the weeks by clicking below.

Who is Jason and what is Engenuics? That’s “En-gen-OO-iks” which is a mash-up of various tech words for Jason’s company that was started in 2012 with a focus on engineering design and training. Jason Long, P. Eng., is a passionate engineer and educator. He has volunteered more than 10,000 hours over nearly two decades to help people learn about engineering and foster creativity and interest in STEM. Not only has Jason been formally recognized for outstanding mentorship by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), he runs his program internationally and is also pursuing a Masters degree in Engineering Education.
